In QLD once you have successfully completed the traffic control course with your RTO there is a requirement for you to apply for a traffic control industry authority.

What does this mean for me?

Once you have gotten your Statement of Attainment from us for your traffic control course you will need to do one of the following:

New entrants

• Either apply online via the TMR website here and follow their instructions, OR,
• Fill in the Traffic Controller Accreditation Application form (F4115) and lodge the application at your local transport and motoring service centre, which can be found here

Renewals

• Fill in the Traffic Controller Accreditation Application form (F4115) and lodge the application at your local transport and motoring service centre, which can be found here
• Unfortunately renewal applications are not currently able to completed online

What will the authority cost and how long will it last?

Presuming that you follow the TCASAP (which can be found here), and don’t have your authority terminated by TMR, it will last 3 years before you will need to complete a renewal course and apply for it again.

The cost of the authority will depend whether you are a new entrant or a renewal.

Cost for new entrants*

• You will need to pay for the ‘traffic controller accreditation – 3 years new application’ under the business and industry licence fees heading here
• In most cases you will also need to pay for an extra criminal history check fee (the cost of which can be found in small writing at the bottom of the ‘business and industry licence fees’ section

* Note at present any interstate traffic controllers wishing to apply for the licence in QLD will need to complete the QLD course and apply through TMR as per the above. TMR may treat you like a new entrant and ask for a criminal history check to be completed

Cost for renewals

• You will need to pay for the ‘traffic controller accreditation – 3 year renewal’ under the business and industry licence fees heading here
• In rare cases you will also need to pay for an extra criminal history check fee (the cost of which can be found in small writing at the bottom of the ‘business and industry licence fees’ section
  • This may occur if you disclose on your application that you have a criminal history

Please be aware that these fees are set by, and need to be paid to, TMR, for your industry authority after successfully completing the TC course.

These costs are not to complete the course with AATC. The course fees to complete the course itself can be found by going to each courses individual page TC Renewal or TC New Entrant, or in AATC’s student handbook on our terms of use page here.

As of Monday the 1^st of April, Transport and Main Roads QLD (TMR) has mandated all trainees completing the renewal course for traffic control must have completed a minimum of 32 hours of Stop/Slow activities, within the previous 12 months to their course.

This means that the supervisory person who is filling in the 3^rd party report for the renewal trainee will need to advise AATC that the trainee has completed 32 hours, instead of the previous 16 hours required.

AATC has received an invitation to utilise CSQ funding from 1st March 2019 for the following courses:

•RIIWHS205D Control Traffic with Stop/Slow Bat
•RIIWHS302D Implement Traffic Management Plan

Principal Contractors not listed on the Major Projects Short Courses (MPSC) Schedule can contact CSQ and request their personnel be given access to this funding (~).

The following course rates will apply once funding access confirmed

• Traffic Control $250 *
• Traffic Management Implementation $50 ^

Conditions apply:

* Employer provides 20 hr placement & PPE.

^ (+ $50 per person for 3 x onsite setups for TMI full courses)

~Available to eligible construction industry workers only and subject to funding availability.

By invitation from the QLD Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), an Acquired Awareness Traffic Management (AATM) representative spoke on behalf of the Traffic Management Industry at the Statewide Traffic Management Centre (STMC) forum 27/12/2018.

The importance of traffic management industry calling STMC (phone: 131940) prior to implementing TGS and again as soon as the TGS have been removed from the roadway was emphasised by STMC.
